Caisse d’ économie solidaire Desjardins helps finance new housing units for single women and single parent households
This project is led by the YWCA of Montreal. It is valued at $48.8 million. The new building will have a total of 96 units, offering up to four bedrooms. On the roof, a garden and a mezzanine playroom are planned for children. On the ground floor there will be a community kitchen and food bank reserved for tenants. Everything will be located in the east of the Ville-Marie district.
This new building, incorporating principles of universal accessibility, will allow the organization to accommodate twice as many women. In addition to single women, women with dependents (children or cared for) can be accommodated in spaces designed and fitted out according to their needs. Support and psychosocial support 24/7 will also be offered.
The Caisse d' économique solidaire contributes to women giving themselves power over their lives by financing 86 of the 96 housing units, via the AccèsLogis program. This government program offers tenants in need a rent supplement that sets the rental price at 25% of their income. Ten of the 96 units will be financed outside of AccèsLogis.
