CEO of GLS Bank Thomas Jorberg is "European Banker of the Year 2021"
"The Group of 20+1", formed by independent journalists has chosen Banking CEO Thomas Jorberg to be the "European Banker of the Year 2021". Thomas is the CEO of Global Alliance for Banking on Values member GLS Bank from Germany, and this is the first time since 1994 that the award has been dedicated to a strictly social-ecological bank.
GABV member GLS Bank is characterized by very strict investment criteria. No money from the 321,000 customers is invested into weapons, nuclear and coal energy, biocides, pesticides, genetic engineering in agriculture, factory farming or the violation of human rights.
Thomas, GLS Bank's CEO since 2003, says, "It is a great honour to be European Banker of the Year 2021. It is also a recognition for all employees of the GLS bank. At the same time, the award shows that sustainable banking is of outstanding importance for the industry and that a high level of ambition is necessary. It is also an incentive to further improve the quality of work. Furthermore, we are going to set impulses, and drive debates and innovations. Above all, it is our goal to transform finance and accompany courageous changes towards a climate-friendly and social economy.
