
Banco Mundo Mujer wins Portafolio Award for microcredit programme supporting vulnerable communities
Banco Mundo Mujer has been awareded the Portafolio Award in the Community Contribution category for its project “Legacy that Inspires: Microcredit for Thriving Communities,” recognising its efforts to expand access to financial services for vulnerable populations. The award was presented on November 19 to the bank’s president, José Vicente Velasco Melo.
The initiative operates through a direct support model that assesses clients’ real needs before granting loans, helping small entrepreneurs start or strengthen productive businesses and generate stable household income. With a presence in 703 municipalities and over 737,000 active clients, the program has demonstrated measurable social impact, including increased income levels and improved quality of life, particularly for women, who represent the majority of its microcredit beneficiaries.
This recognition highlights Banco Mundo Mujer’s long-term commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment, positioning its microcredit model as a key driver of sustainable development in underserved communities.
