How the green transition is creating jobs and prosperity in the Basque Country and Navarre
Laboral Kutxa has published a new report on environmental transition in the Basque Country and Navarre, examining how the shift to a greener economy is transforming employment, competitiveness, and community wellbeing across both territories.
The report, produced by LABORAL Kutxa’s Research Department, finds that environmental activities already account for 2.47% of GDP in the Basque Country and support 26,643 green jobs across sectors including manufacturing, construction, energy, transport, and services. Looking ahead, investments linked to the energy transition could generate almost 3,000 additional jobs by 2030, provided that planned investment and development rates are maintained.
Beyond environmental benefits, the report underlines the potential of the transition to foster quality employment, strengthen local competitiveness, promote skills development and build more resilient communities. By generating and sharing knowledge on these challenges and opportunities, Laboral Kutxa aims to contribute to a transition that is not only greener, but also more inclusive and socially beneficial.
