In a landmark achievement for sustainable finance in Nepal, NMB Bank has successfully issued the country's first-ever green bond, securing a $60 million investment. This initiative is backed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), British International Investment (BII), and MetLife.
The green bond aims to finance environmentally sustainable projects, including renewable energy initiatives like solar power, the adoption of electric vehicles, and the development of green buildings. It is projected to create approximately 8,000 jobs over the next five years, significantly contributing to Nepal's green economy.
Manoj Kumar Goyal, Chairperson of NMB Bank, stated, "The issuance of the first-ever Green Bond in Nepal, supported by our partners IFC, BII, and MetLife, marks a transformative shift in Nepal’s financial landscape, demonstrating that our nation can lead by example in climate finance, channeling global capital towards a greener and more resilient future."
