Bank Australia wins Australian Good Design Award for sustainable card innovation
Bank Australia’s new debit and credit cards have been recognised with an Australian Good Design Award, celebrating their innovation, sustainability, and commitment to responsible banking. The cards were developed in collaboration with Silver Lining Agency (B Corp) and environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans.
The award was presented under this year’s theme, “Design for Better,” which highlights the power of design to build a more inclusive, balanced, and sustainable future. Bank Australia’s card design captures this ethos through its transparent “open book” logo, symbolising the bank’s core values of transparency and ethical banking.
Beyond aesthetics, the new cards are made from 100% recycled plastic, with 64% sourced from coastal communities through Parley for the Oceans, helping to reduce waste and protect marine environments. (Some components, such as the chip and magnetic strip, cannot currently be made from recycled materials.)
The recognition reinforces Bank Australia’s leadership in designing for impact and using innovation to promote sustainability, transparency, and positive change in the banking sector.
